Memphis officer who lied to police about shooting faces new charge: hiring a hit man

Memphis police Sgt. Norman P. Benjamin wanted a man to kill the boyfriend of a then 17-year-old young woman who was the target of Benjamin’s affections, according to a court document filed by a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agent on Wednesday.

Benjamin, shot while on duty Sept. 3, landed in Shelby County Jail on Wednesday, charged with the felonies of making a false report to police and solicitation to commit first-degree murder.
