Union County Sheriff fires Sergeant involved in Knoxville shooting

The Union County sheriff has fired a former sergeant who was robbed in a Knoxville motel parking lot while meeting a woman he said was part of an unspecified investigation.

Kelly Yount, 43, was terminated by Union County Sheriff Earl Loy after the men met to discuss the findings of the Knoxville Police Department probe into the robbery, according to Union County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Mike Butcher.

Yount, who has been with the department full time since 1996, met Wednesday with Loy. Loy and Knox County District Attorney General Randy Nichols discussed the KPD findings on Tuesday.
