State inmate on Unicoi County payroll in 2010

ERWIN, Tenn. –Joshua Simpson was under the supervision of Unicoi County Sheriff Kent Harris from May of 2009 to August of 2010. During his incarceration, Simpson received four county paychecks and registered a boat at the county clerk’s office.

11 Connects has uncovered new information about the use of Unicoi County inmates under Sheriff Kent Harris. Last year, one of them was on the county payroll. Joshua Simpson started a four-year state prison sentence for aggravated assault on April 22nd, 2009. The state was out of beds, so Simpson spent two weeks in the Sullivan County Jail. On May 7th, he was transferred to the Unicoi County Jail. Sheriff Kent Harris put Simpson to work and paid him for his efforts.
