Jackson police officer fired after pleading guilty to theft

Marvent Brooks, 36, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Madison County Circuit Court,
Division III, related to charges involving a 2010 incident where a robbery victim had money stolen by the former Jackson police officer.

The terms of Brooks’ plea agreement resulted in him receiving a sentence of six years for tampering with evidence, four years for theft of property over $1,000 and two years each on two counts of official misconduct, according to a news release.
