Petition calls for Humphreys sheriff to step down

WAVERLY, TN (WSMV) -A controversial Middle Tennessee sheriff who has been in the headlines for months is facing another serious challenge from his fellow citizens.

A group of citizens in Humphreys County have filed their own lawsuit to force Sheriff Chris Davis out of office.

The suit is called a petition to ouster, and the citizens say they want Davis out in 20 days.

Well-known Waverly attorney and McEwen city judge Michael Patrick filed the formal lawsuit Tuesday.

One year ago, Humphreys County deputies were caught on tape beating an unarmed man severely.

The sheriff also stands accused of beating him inside the jail and has been accused of using county equipment and county time to conduct an elaborate affair.
