Former deputy Mark Lipton convicted of assault, faces May 1 sentencing

SEVIERVILLE — A Sevier County jury took about an hour recently to convict a former sheriff’s deputy of aggravated assault over a fight with a neighbor, court officials said.

Mark Lipton was charged with attacking a neighbor who was riding an ATV. The neighbor, Henry Sutton, told police Lipton struck him and knocked him off the vehicle. He said Lipton then drew a gun and threatened him.
