MADISONVILLE, Tenn. — A Monroe County jailer has been charged with attempting to smuggle drugs and tobacco into the jail.
Following an investigation Tuesday, Thomas Grande was fired from his post as a corrections officer and charged with official misconduct, possession of Schedule II substance and introduction of contraband, according to Monroe County Sheriff Bill Bivens.
Detectives recovered a small quantity of methamphetamine and tobacco at the jail, and Grande later confessed to bringing the items in with the intent of distributing them to inmates, according to a media release from Bivens.
