Woman Cited Despite Hanging Handicapped Placard
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A handicapped woman has been forced to pay a parking ticket that Metro officials admitted she did not deserve.
Diane Lord was given the ticket Wednesday when she parked her truck at a meter on 2nd Avenue North and Gay Street in downtown Nashville. The truck had been customized for her disabilities.
Even with her handicap placard visible through the windshield, officials with Metro’s Traffic Violation Bureau said she still has to pay.
Lord called the ticket office to figure out why she had been cited. She said the worker told her that it should not have happened and gave her two options – she could pay the ticket or send a copy of the placard with a $12 dismissal fee – $2 more than the actual ticket.
