TBI: Former cop shot himself; Ex-officer charged with filing false report
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation now thinks a former Jackson police officer who reported that he was attacked and shot by two men in 2010, actually shot himself.
The TBI arrested former officer Travis Hass on Wednesday on a charge of filing a false report, after he was indicted by the Madison County Grand Jury on Tuesday.
In a report after the shooting, Hass, 29, told investigators that two men attacked him on June 3, 2010, outside L. Dalton Wholesale Meat Co., at 116 Lawrence Switch Road, and that he was shot after he struggled with the men over his gun.
Hass told investigators he saw a suspicious person standing outside the business and walked away from his patrol car to investigate.
According to Hass’ statement, as he approached the man, a second man ambushed him from behind, police told The Jackson Sun.
