TBI investigates shooting of ex-HCSO drug detective
CHURCH HILL — Former Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Detective Brad Depew was hospitalized Monday night after suffering a gunshot wound that is now being investigated by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
Depew, 43, 251 Barrett Lane, Church Hill, has been indicted by the Hawkins County grand jury on 72 charges related to him allegedly stealing narcotics from the HCSO evidence locker on multiple occasions in March and April 2011.
TBI agents were reportedly at the hospital Monday night questioning Depew and his wife about the shooting.
“TBI is investigating a domestic incident at the home of the Depews,” TBI spokeswoman Kristen Helm told the Times-News. “Agents responded to the scene at approximately 5:30 p.m. this (Monday) evening. Brad Depew suffered an injury as a result of a shooting incident but is expected to be okay. He is being treated at an area hospital. TBI is continuing to investigate at this time.”
