Woman left alone in holding cell for 18 hours sues Sheriff’s Office

An Antioch woman is suing the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office claiming she was unintentionally locked in a courthouse holding cell for 18 hours last year.

Angleyn Hendricks, 50, was sentenced to 48 hours in prison on a domestic violence charge in June 2011. A sheriff’s deputy locked her in a small holding cell meant for attorney-client discussions, but no one came to transfer her to a prison cell.

The lawsuit reads, “The room had no windows, only one entrance, and was furnished with only a small countertop and a metal chair.”

According to the lawsuit, Hendricks is diabetic and had no insulin inside the room. The suit continues, “Plaintiff cried throughout the evening, slept very little, sang gospel songs to herself, and prayed for help.”

A sheriff’s deputy found her at around 10:30 a.m. the next day. She was transported to an infirmary where she was treated with insulin. A judge declared she had fulfilled her sentence and let her go.
