Former Memphis police officer gets 5 years in drug case
A former Memphis police officer was sentenced this morning to five years in federal prison for drug trafficking.
Lowell Duke, 39, a 13-year veteran officer, was convicted last year of conspiring to buy and sell powder cocaine and crack cocaine, sometimes from his patrol car while on duty.
Duke was fired in 2009 after an indictment outlined his involvement in what authorities said was “a significant” drug organization.
Police said information stemming from a traffic stop led to an internal affairs investigation of Duke in August 2008 and eventually led to the arrests of him and eight others.
