Bethel Springs Police Chief Reinstalled But Refuses to Work Nights

Bethel Springs residents have mixed feelings about Police Chief “Pee Wee” Sowell being rehired to his former position.

One resident told me he believes Sowell is a good man but he isn’t needed in the City of Bethel Springs.

“My opinion, we just don’t need a police department. That money should go to lower the sewer bill,” said Albert Brown, a resident of Bethel Springs.

The chief was suspended back in March of this year for illegally tearing up a traffic ticket.

According to Mayor Cox, “Pee Wee” has been asked to work the night shift, but he refused.

The 2000 census had this place with a population of less than 800.

Their own police department? This is not only silly and completely wasteful, it’s downright dangerous.
