Appellate Judge Jerry Smith pleads guilty to DUI, serving 48 hours in jail
KNOXVILLE — An appellate judge has pleaded guilty to driving while drunk hours before he was scheduled to hear cases in Knoxville.
Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals Judge Jerry Lynn Smith entered a guilty plea in Knox County General Sessions Court on Monday to driving under the influence.
He was sentenced to the standard penalty for a first offense of 48 hours in jail with credit for five hours already spent behind bars after his April 23 arrest. Defense attorney Tom Dillard said today Smith, 58, is serving that sentence now.
