Ex-Knoxville police official admits embezzlement

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A former Knoxville Police Department financial analyst has pleaded guilty to embezzlement.

Prosecutors said 46-year-old John Harold entered the plea Friday to one count in U.S. District Court. An internal investigation revealed that Harold had misappropriated more than $50,000 in funds associated with a grant under the 2007 Internet Crimes Against Children. Additionally, prosecutors said Harold inappropriately issued checks to himself totaling $33,000 from a city account.
