Former Memphis cop pleads guilty to federal drug charges
A former Memphis police officer has pleaded guilty to federal charges stemming from drug dealing and assaulting and stealing money from civilians.
Melvin Victor Robinson, 32, faces up to life in prison when he is sentenced later this year.
Robinson admitted trying to buy 10 kilograms (22 pounds) of cocaine from an informant in January of this year while he was on duty and in uniform.
He obtained a key from the informant who told him the drugs were in a black duffel bag in a trailer at a trucking lot in South Memphis.
FBI agents secretly watched as Robinson retrieved the black bag with what he believed to be cocaine and placed it in the back of his police vehicle.
