Former deputy court clerk pleads guilty to theft

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – A former deputy court clerk in Germantown has pleaded guilty to theft.

A Germantown Police Department investigation revealed Janet Donnell stole more than $3,000 over seven months in 2011. The investigation showed Donnell pocketed cash payments to the court on several occasions, altering accounting records to hide the thefts.

Shelby County prosecutor Amy P. Weirich said Donnell entered a plea on Sept. 13 to theft of property over $1,000.

Criminal Court Judge Terry Lafferty accepted Donnell’s plea and set a sentencing hearing for Oct. 11.
