DCS: 31 children it investigated died this year
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – The Tennessee Department of Children’s Services has acknowledged 31 children whose care had been the subject of department investigations died in the first half of this year.
The Tennessean and state Rep. Sherry Jones had requested the information, on which the newspaper reported Friday.
According to The Tennessean, 10 of the children were the subjects of ongoing investigations by DCS. None of those children were more than one year old.
Among the total number of deaths were 17 children whose care had been investigated by the department at some point. Four children who were in state custody died this year.
