Former Lafayette Police Chief Arrested

NASHVILLE, Tenn.— The former Chief of Police of Lafayette has been arrested by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation after an investigation involving an assault on a prisoner.

Officials said that 38-year-old Ray Amalfitano resigned in September 2012 during the TBI investigation. He had worked for the Lafayette Police Department for 12 years and was promoted to Chief in 2011.

In his resignation letter Amalfitano said “due to recent events, it has been made very difficult for me to effectively perform my duties as Chief of Police.”
