MPD: Officer accidentally shot by fellow officer

(WMC-TV) – A Memphis police officer is in critical condition after being accidentally shot by another officer who was aiming at an aggressive pit bull.

According to Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong, the injured officer is Willie Bryant.

Action News 5 was initially told by a public information officer earlier that Bryant was in stable condition. We have now been informed he was critically injured.

The shooting happened on the 500 block of Arrington Avenue Thursday afternoon while Bryant was serving a drug-related warrant. According to police, Bryant was shot in the back by another officer when a pit bull started to attack officers.
